Solar PV System for the The Sisters of St. Teresa Jornet’s nursing home for the Homeless.

(Little Sisters of the Elderly Homeless)

The Little Sisters of the Helpless Elderly “The Sisters of the Helpless Elderly” are a religious congregation of pontifical right founded on January 27, 1873 by the Venerable Saturnino Lopez Novoa and St. Teresa Jornet. Its specific purpose is the constant exercise of the virtue of Christian charity for the most vulnerable elderly, supporting them in a family environment and taking care of all their needs: material, affection and spiritual. We want, on a day to day basis, to give life to the slogan that St. Teresa Jornet left us “Take care of bodies to save souls”.

What is the cause about?

The project consists of installing a 100 kW system in the San Antonio nursing home to make it energy efficient. Currently, the home receives no income from the elderly residents (120) and lives on donations. The monthly energy charge ranges from $1,500 to $2,000 per month.

One of our objectives is to work towards creating a better future based on the conservation of the environment and its natural resources, the use of renewable energy, environmental resilience and sustainable livelihoods. We aim to teach children and youth about the importance of using renewable energy and the options it offers in various aspects; professional, labor, social and educational support.
